“Stake Out” fundraiser presented by Harrah’s Foundation raises $340,000
Officials with the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation (NOPJF) said the December 4th “Stake Out for Justice” luncheon presented by Harrah’s Foundation set a new fund-raising success bench-mark in the organization’s 12-year history.
The event raised more than $340,000, said “Stake Out” and NOPJF Chairman Elizabeth Boh. With Harrah’s Foundation as the event’s Presenting Sponsor, other Chief Sponsors included Hilton New Orleans Riverside, Freeport-McMoran and Tidewater.
“We’re thrilled at our success with this event,” Boh said. “It represents clearly the concern that our community has for improving our criminal justice system. It also affirms the broad-based support for the Foundation’s mission towards that goal.”
More than 600 people attended this year’s event held at the Hilton Riverside. CNN’s Soledad O’Brien delivered the keynote address. Special recognition awards were presented to Frank Glaviano of Shell Oil Production Co. and NOPJF founder, John Casbon.
NOPJF CEO Robert Stellingworth said that all funds raised by the “Stake Out” luncheon would directly support NOPJF programs and activities.
“We’re very gratified by the success of this event this year,” Stellingworth said in his comments at the luncheon. “And we pledge to use the money wisely in the name of changes and reforms that are necessary to move our criminal justice system forward in 2008.”
